Now You See It, Now You Don't...

"I am not my hair /

I am not this skin/

I am not your expectations, no...

I am a soul that lives within..."

I did it.

I cut my hair.

After donning locs for over 22 years (and for the last two of those years, wondering what I was waiting on to cut them), I finally cut my hair.

It wasn't that I was necessarily afraid-- I just like to be certain about the decisions I make.

I needed change. I yearned change. I wanted to feel the sensation of a comb/brush/pick run through my hair-- from root to tip!

After exhausting every possible style I could do with locs, I let 'em go...and I LOVE IT. The hairstyles that I've always admired from afar are now within my grasp; Afro, twist out, cornrows, box braids, etc...

I need a favor: Can you recommend any natural hair products to try out? I'm in search of the perfect shampoo/condish/moisturizer combo... Thanks in advance :)

Here's to my hair journey!

SWEET '16.

Happy 2016!

It's been a while since I've blogged, but hey-- better now than never, right?

First I gotta say- 2015 was one of the most amazing years of my life! It was exhilarating, frightening, rewarding, confusing, satisfying, and RICH with first-time experiences (to say the least, although I just said a mouthful!)

My 2015 ended on a high-note, which was traveling to a place I've dreamt of visiting for many years- Tulum, Mexico. In fact, most of 2015 consisted of travel. I've been places that were once only tangible to me through watching Travel Channel or flipping through coffee table books. Me. A woman who dreamt of visiting places far, far away, yet suffered from anxiety due to the mere THOUGHT of actually TRAVELING to reach my dreams. (Crazy, right? More on all of this travel talk in the coming blogs...)

Ok, back to the future. 2016.

I'm looking forward to lots and lots of celebrating. My youngest daughter graduates from high school AND turns 18, my oldest daughter turns 21, my (not-so) little sister turns 40... AAAAND my Dad turns 70-- all in 2016! Needless to say I'll be spending lots of time assembling party decor inspo folders, working towards the perfect theme for each special event! I'm up for these projects too :)

More traveling. Remember the Pringles potato chip slogan, "Once You Pop, You Can't Stop"? Well, I'm remixing it for my life by saying, "Once You Travel, You Can't Stop"... Or how about "Once You Fly, You Can't Standby"... (As in life, not in buddy passes-- I'll GLADLY 'standby' for those!)

My cookbook. This is the year it finally emerges from its cocoon. The inaugural effort of many more cookbooks to come. Hmmm...gotta think of a 'slogan ala Pringles' in terms of penning cookbooks. (If you have a suggestion, please share!)

It's shaping up to be an exciting year for sure- and filled with LOVE, no matter what I do!

Hope yours will be just as rewarding!
